Morris Dancing making a comeback
Schools across the Swindon region are stepping up to the challenge of developing their dancing skills. Under the watchful eye of Kim Woodward, of The Great Caper, schoolchildren are having classes in the quintessentially English tradition of Morris Dancing.
Kim, a national Morris Dance tutor, sees part of the renewed interest as a response to recent articles by old male dancers that they are dying out. This may be so, but as Kim travels the length and breath of England she is certain that the young people will rise to the challenge. “How do the children react to dancing the Morris?” Kim is asked. “It’s fun, energetic and gives young people a great sense of achievement” she responds.
Kim and other Great Caper tutors are working in Swindon throughout the summer term.
