The Arts for Health Group at The Great Western Hospital announce the final season in their Photographic Competition

As part of its ongoing Art Programme The Arts for Health Group at the Great Western Hospital would like to build up a library of photographic images that can be used for future display around the Hospital as and when the needs arises. To achieve this we are running a photographic competition open to anyone, of all ages within the catchment area of the Hospital. We would like to encourage photographers to use the natural landscape of the area as inspiration. Any subject matter will be considered (as long as it falls within the theme and acceptable bounds of taste!) but one of the Art’s Group Key objectives will be taken into account when the work is selected;

“The objective is to use art in the hospital to soften the clinical aspects of the interior, creating a space where fear and anxiety, often associated with hospital environments, is reduced. It is hoped that this creates a positive environment throughout the building and a welcoming, inspiring and thought provoking atmosphere for patients, staff and relatives alike”.

Rules of Entry
• There is no entry fee.
• All entrants for the fourth phase of the competition, ‘Summer Landscape’ should be in by beginning of October 2010
• All entrees should be e-mailed to dws@contemporary-art-holdings.co.uk. The work will be viewed by the Arts Group and those entrants whose work is selected informed by e-mail.
• You must be the photographer and owner of the copyright for any image entered.
• Entrants can submit a maximum of six images.
• Please keep digital manipulation such as cloning and compositing to a minimum; your photograph should faithfully represent the scene as you saw it.
• Images must not include a watermark or border.
• You will retain copyright of your entries at all times and will always be credited alongside your picture should it be displayed.
• By entering this competition, you grant the Trust the right to frame and display your photograph in the Great Western Hospital.
• If your image is chosen for display we will need to re-produce it to about 18” x 12” to fit a standard frame. Any image of about 4mb should be fine.
• Should your photographs include other people, you must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted. Photographs featuring people and not accompanied by a release form will not be considered.
