BIg Arts Day 2012 Helen's Blog #2

Whrrrrrrrrrr can you hear the sound of my brain whirring? We had a great creative team meeting on Friday and there’s loads more for me to think about and decide. It’s going to be fun being the Artsitic Director – I get to have the creative decision making, but I also have to figure out all the production details and problems!
The first major task is to sort out the set and the music. I’ve got the fabulous Paul Ashman from Swindon Music Service leading on music and he’s pulling together a very small group of super talented under 25’s to compose and perform the sound. The set needs to be multi purpose and flexible and very, very strong. I’ve just sent some early ideas to Gordon our magnificent machine maker, Billy our professional advisor from Cirque Bijou and Jake our lead performer. Wonder what they’ll think?
Please try and make sure that if a Rave Tent or stand is set up next year, that it is held within another part of the establishment.
I feel that last year it attracted the wrong young people and was not really part of the arts.
1) Maybe even Artists painting portraits as they do in Paris..!
2) Open air Stage play
3) Have open air music and local bands, not in tents.
Hi Raymond
Thanks for your comments. The Dance Music zone will be sited differently next year. We are considering a Stage play but difficult to manage sound wise, really needs a more intense atmosphere and we do have the Lydiard Open Air Theatre series later in the summer for that audience. Trouble with open air is risk of rain on equipment. We try to be flexible and move outdoors if the weather is good but no one can afford for kit to get wet and damaged! Artists are able to paint portraits in the Arts and Crafts Zone.
Cheers
Helen
