SUMMARY:Student exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Traditional and new media artwork-created by 130 Swindon students as part of a project supported by a £25,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Young Roots programme-goes on display in February. Four schools from the Swindon area have taken part in Back to Black and White, a youth arts and heritage initiative run in partnership with Swindon Youth Forum and Swindon Borough Council’s Culture Swindon team.
Starting last year, Swindon Youth Forum members, aged 11-16, worked alongside digital artist Dani Landau. Inspired by Swindon photographer Albert Beaney’s collection of 40,000 photographs of residents from the 1940s -70s, the young people took photos of people today, using images both past and present to curate their own exhibition, which over 1,000 people attended at Artsite.
Culture Swindon’s digital media team Create Studios then rolled out the project to the four Swindon schools, who produced their own artworks and curated their own schools’ exhibitions.
Now all the work will come together in a range of photographs, digital films and installations at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery in a final exhibition, starting on Friday 10 February, 10am, and running until Saturday 14 April, open Wednesdays to Saturdays.

SUMMARY:Publick Transport presents... Discombobulated
DESCRIPTION:Stop and search experts Malcolm McClosky and Esperanza Vallejo present their take on all matters of security, born out of a lifetime of patrolling airports and being shouted at. Using the mediums of dramatic reconstruction, interpretive dance, tragedy, rock'n'roll, magic and an incredible non-acrobatic number, they present a clown show so utterly stupid that it might just save your life.
Directed by Aitor Basauri (Spymonkey), performed by Angus Barr (Ridiculusmus, Gonzo Moose) and Merce Ribot (beauty contest quarter-finalist, Palafolls, nr Girona, Spain, 1993). Developed and commissioned through Bristol Ferment at Bristol Old Vic.

SUMMARY:BELLOWHEAD LIVE AT STEAM MUSEUM SWINDON
DESCRIPTION:Bellowhead
Sunday 4 March 2012
Steam Museum Swindon
7.00 pm
Anyone who thinks folk can’t rock has obviously never attended a Bellowhead concert.

Although deeply steeped in the age-old history of the genre, what sets this unique group apart is the range of other influences this eleven-piece big band will weave into their sound. Jazz, funk, English music hall and New Orleans marching bands are all present in this riotous yet hugely entertaining performance. From the rampaging vocals of Jon Boden to Ed Neuhauser growling, slightly scary helicon tuba, Bellowhead will sweep you through a heady mix of great tunes, innovative arrangements, rampant imagination and brazen front.
Life for the 11 members of this folk big band has been hectic-to say the least “They're a constant rumbling juggernaut of activity,” says their PR person. Their ever-increasing fan base is set to swell as they've played practically every festival in the country this summer, from Glastonbury, Latitude to V Festival, including an appearance at WOMAD in Charlton Park. With their delirious joie de vivre and compelling ability to radically reinterpret the tales of our past still very much intact, there’s little sign of the Bellowhead juggernaut running out of steam just yet.
5 X Winner ‘Best Live Act’ BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
ALSO featuring the premiere of VICI composed by Bellowhead’s Pete Flood starring Super Strings. The new work VICI, inspired by Wiltshire folk hero Alfred William, commissioned by Super Strings and composed by Bellowhead’s Pete Flood, will see 120 young string players from Wiltshire play alongside some of Britain’s top folk musicians, including Methera violinist Miranda Rutter, concertina virtuoso Robert Harbron, harpist Steph West and Bellowhead’s Ed Neuhauser.
Part of the BBC's Music Nation, uniting orchestras, musical groups, choirs and concert halls all over the UK. For further info on the festival please visit: http://festival.london2012.com/events/9000961607

SUMMARY:Folded Feather Theatre Presents... Suitcase Circus
DESCRIPTION:Wobulous Discombobulous is an anarchic sock in Folded Feather’s Suitcase Circus. He presents a line up of extraordinarily talented performing objects, all with their own unique and captivating storylines. Suitcase Circus features the most unlikely of performers including the world's only acrobatic potato sack, a daredevil ski glove, an incredible dancing milkshake straw, the hypnotic tie snake Windsor Knot, and the lovable yet bizarre magical Mexican hat Timrek.
As with all quality circuses, they have a wonderfully weird and bizarre musical accompaniment provided by Maurice who must bear the burden of performing alongside such delinquent object theatre.

Paris, 1972. Revolution grips the city and the secret police march traitors to their deaths. No one is safe. Everyone is a suspect. Paris needs a hero, someone who can deliver it from this terror and restore freedom and justice. Will such a hero emerge? Yes.

SUMMARY:The Big Arts Day 2012
DESCRIPTION:The Big Arts Day is Swindon's premier cultural festival. In just two years it has developed into Swindon's biggest annual free festival and is a celebration of all that is artistic and creative in the town.
Taking place in the beautiful setting of Lydiard Park, audiences come from all over Swindon and the surrounding areas to experience a feast of entertainment. The festival takes over Lydiard Park with stages, tents, workshops and activities for children and roaming performances.
This is a festival for Swindon and we are proud to say it is delivered by Swindon too. Fantastic talent from ocal schools, dance academies, bands, solo singers, community choirs and theatre groups proved to be a big hit with the crowds in 2011.
2010's event attracted over 20,000 people.
2011's event exceeded those numbers with around 30,000 people over the day.
This year's event takes place on Saturday 14th July 2012.
