YAP Theatre Company Presents a Musical Comedy Double Bill
23 Jul - 24 Jul | £10.00
Town Hall Theatre
Returning from last year’s highly acclaimed production of Sondheim’s Into the Woods, The Janice Thompson Performance Trust’s in house theatre company ‘YAP’ are proud to announce their summer production – a double bill of comic, contemporary musicals, perfect for a summer’s evening.
The first is Lunch at the Cooked Goose by Betty Roe and Marian Lines.
Twenty –Five years after sharing a house with them as music students, Crystal is awaiting the arrival of Maggie, Heather and Gwyneth for the reunion she has organised at a swanky London restaurant – The Cooked Goose – and wondering if she has made a dreadful mistake.
Under the influence of copious champagne the quartet lose their inhibitions as they reminisce, argue and laugh, looking back at their younger and more hopeful selves and rekindling their ambition as they wait – interminably – for the food to arrive.
Lunch at the Cooked Goose is a hilarious contemporary operetta, filled with pastiche of a vast array of choral, operatic and musical theatre works. The show is performed by four of YAP’s most experienced and talented singers, and combines glorious singing and sophisticated comedy for a wonderful hour’s entertainment.
The second piece is Dear Georgette by Viv Hendra.
Struggling with a ‘dead end job’ writing obituaries in the local paper, Jim has decided his career needs a boost. Sparked on by a suggestion from the office cleaner, Mrs B, Jim assumes the alter ego of a female agony aunt ‘Dear Georgette’.
Initially making up the problems he intends to solve, Jim’s world begins to come unstuck, as his readers start to write in with more and more serious issues. Will Jim sink or swim? Will his readers get the solutions they so desperately need? Is there more to Mrs B than a mop and some marigolds?
Dear Georgette is a bittersweet musical play, with fantastic, sing along tunes. Performed by 12 members of YAP, performing at the highest level, Dear Georgette is a tongue in cheek, tragicomedy about ambition, cynicism, love and (quite a lot of) strong liquor.
YAP’s double bill will be performed at the Town Hall Theatre, Swindon Dance, Regent Circus, Swindon, SN1 1QF on the 23rd and 24th July 2010. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased by ringing 01793 601700 or emailing info@swindondance.org.uk
07.30PM - 07:30PM | £10.00
