This is a FREE Arts and Disability show in its 2nd year
following the successful event in 2010

It is a collaboration between Reach, and three Swindon schools:
Commonweal School
Uplands School and Crowdy’s Hill School

The theme of this event is “Who do you want to be?” and is a compilation of pieces created by young people who all have learning difficulties and or physical disabilities exploring expectations and hopes for their future adult lives. Reach produced a similar event last year, it was so well received that Reach were asked if they would put it on again this year. Each school performed their own original piece on the main stage supported by the arts workers and the actors in Partners. It was a tremendously exciting day which was a very positive experience for the performers and the packed auditorium On the feedback form one of the audience members left this comment:

“I have often struggled to understand what ‘difference’ really means and how it affects me, today I found out. If we disregard the small differences that we see around us, dismissing these as having no impact on our lives, then we let in the big destructive powers that affect us all, thank you for putting on this event and for showing me that ‘difference’ really matters.”

Reach have an overall objective to help build a strong sense of community. Our projects aim to bring people together. We focus on minority groups whose disability often leaves them living isolated lives in their community. Reach’s inclusive therapeutic projects enable all to feel welcome, invite all to ‘take part’ in whatever way they can. Making it ART 2011 will fulfill this aim and provide an afternoon packed with delight that delivers a strong message that says “ I can be whoever I want to be”.
