Swindon Easter Mashup
14 Apr - 14 Apr | £3.00
The 12 Bar
Swindon Easter Mashup is a local music event created by the Foundation
Degree students from The Academy of Music and Sound, Swindon. This
event is being held at 12 Bar on Westcott Place, Swindon on Thursday 14th
April 2011, packed full with local musical talent from many different genres.
With the doors opening at 8pm for the excitement to start at 8.30pm, this
event is one not to be missed by music lovers of many ages.
There are various acts playing on the night including The Swindon Easter
Mashup Band, created from the Foundation Degree students who are young,
exciting, and oozing with charisma and musical talent. Performing their own
versions of songs from various bands including Paramore and Bon Jovi,
their positive atmosphere and carefree attitude comes through clearly to the
audience as purely wanting to have a good time. The Country vocals from
Leah Thompson work well with the enthusiasm from the band, with George
Christie and Bradley ‘Batman’ Lewis playing the rhythm and lead guitar, Dan
Morris playing the bass guitar, Sarina Williams and Matt Clemments sharing
the role as the back bone of the band as the drummer. This band wont
disappoint and are perfect for opening the Swindon Easter Mashup event.
Another inspiring act that will be performing are runners up from Swindon
105.5 FM’s Late Gig Competition, Jenny’s Half. Lead singer, Steph Arrlott,
has a very current, R&B voice with an amazing vocal range and vocal power,
solidly supported by humorous lead guitarist and song writer Neil Hopkins.
With the mixture of original songs and covers, Jenny’s Half have a welcoming
presence and easily please the audience with their quirky pop songs,
which they have been recording in Neil’s home studio. With their website,
www.reverbnation.com/neilhopkins, hitting over 3500 visits, this duo is well on
their way to spreading their music around Wiltshire.
Local Swindon Funk/Rock band, City of Lights, are another of the new bands
coming onto the music scene. Writing songs and performing classic covers
songs from music legends like Jimi Hendrex and Lenny Cravitz are just some
of the things the band has been working on quietly for the past year. After
playing their first headlining gig in February at The Furnace, Commercial
Road, they are now fully prepared and are regularly gigging around Swindon.
With Holly Baker’s vocals full of attitude, mixed with the smooth vocal of
Bryan Medina. This vocal duo is completely in-sync with guitar enthusiast
Ben Banyard, funky bass guitarist Curtis Willcocks and, enthusiastic drummer
Kyle Foote. The band instantly click together and perform with passion, with
both original songs and their favourite, crowd pleasing cover songs.
Brand new Pop Punk band, High Hopes, are storming the local music scene
with gig appearances at The Riffs, The Platform and The Furnace. After only
being together for less than 4 months, they’ve already won Battle of The
Bands at 12 Bar and have released their first demo “Long Way Home”. They
have also got an advertising advantage as bass guitarist Nathan Gregory
owns Castration Clothing, which has allowed them to recently have specially
designed band T-shirts. This 5 piece band is lead by Ryan Felton on lead
vocals, Louis Lambourne and Ben Crook on guitar, Nathan Gregory on bass
guitar and metal drummer Liam O’Halloran. With a general metal music back
ground, this band has stepped away from what they are known for to show
Swindon that they are more than what they appear to be.
