21st annual Swindon Kite Festival

07 May - 08 May | Free

Lydiard Park

White Horse Kite Flyers are pleased to announce that the 21st annual Swindon Kite Festival, will take place at Lydiard Park on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May 2011 from 10AM to 5PM. Open to everyone, with free entry, this colourful and spectacular festival will feature kites of all shapes and sizes.

Over the weekend, there will be kite-flying demonstrations by “Close Encounters”, from Andover, who demonstrate their expertise with a running commentary so that the public can learn and understand what they are doing. There will be displays of a variety kites, from giant parafoils to miniature tissue paper kites by flyers from all over Britain and a number from overseas. For family visitors, there is a selection of children’s rides and a children’s kite workshop, where for a small fee children can build a kite of their own. There will be food stalls at this event or bring a picnic to enjoy a great day out watching the colourful displays.

The festival is organised by the White Horse Kite Flyers – a local kite group formed in the mid 80’s who are well known in the kiting world for their displays of very large kites, many of them made by club members. A number of these kites will be on display over the weekend. There will be kite traders who are not only traders, but kite enthusiasts who can advise the public on what kite to purchase, so that they can join in.
