Neil Patterson
I have an extensive background across the arts receiving the majority of my training in, dance, drama and musical theatre during three years at the Doreen Bird College in London. For the past nine years I have taught drama and singing to college students and dance and drama at school level and drama locally at Tanwoods. I have combined this teaching with my own performing career. I have worked in diverse roles from robotic dancing for BBC television to solo singing roles at English National Opera (Street Scene) and Scottish Opera (Cal)! From West End musical theatre (Sophisticated Ladies) to being an award winning Slam Poet (Neil is one of the founding members of the successful midlands based collective the New October Poets and won the literary festival award for slam poetry here in Swindon). I have worked in major musicals both touring and rep across the UK in number one shows from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Peter Pan, to the Pajama Game, Anyone can Whistle, and Bells are ringing etc etc. I have worked in pantomime (Dick Whittington, Robinson Crusoe), trade shows and television. As an actor I’ve worked both in this country and abroad. My professional debut as an actor was the role of Banquo in Swindon Magic Roundabouts Theatre companies production of Macbeth which toured the Wiltshire area. I received classical voice training and studied music theory full time for a year at Lewisham College in London. I play guitar and I have written well over a hundred songs which I do perform live along with well known covers.
I played the role of Scar for over two years in the number one show the Legend of the Lion King at Eurodisney Paris. For Nitro Productions (formerly the Black theatre Cooperative) I have performed in Trafalgar Square the piece Mass Carib and recently work-shopped a play with them called Desert Boy. I occasionally sing and perform with the Motown group Mission Blue. I certainly look forward to bringing to fruition more diverse and challenging projects here in Swindon and beyond.
