The Alfred Williams Heritage Society was founded in 2009 to spread knowledge of the late 19th/early 20th century poet, author, historian, linguist, naturalist, folk song collector, philosopher and scholar Alfred Williams, who lived at South Marston, near Swindon, between 1877 and 1930.
We are currently applying for funding to support a weekend festival in November 2010 which will celebrate Alfred’s life and work, and are working on longer-term projects, including the establishment of a permanent display of Alfred Williams-related material in Swindon and bursaries for scholars.
The society was founded by Chairman Dr John Cullimore, Vice Chair is Graham Carter and secretary is Caroline Ockwell, who welcome interest from anybody with a passion for local history and literature in general and Alfred Williams in particular, who can help us make an unsung hero into a household name.
