The Evil Twins not so Evil
Multi-media specialists James and Mark Carroll – aka The Evil Twins – are not twins at all but brothers with a passion for sharing their knowledge. They can often be seen at Create Studios, Isambard School and on the FluxMobile teaching young people all about web games, animation and other multi media mysteries.
Now aged 32 and 30 respectively they’ve been interested in media since childhood when they watched films – and then wanted to recreate them.
So, how did they transform childhood hopes into reality? James explained, “We learnt everything we could and then, in our early twenties, actually made something to send around to everybody. That got fantastic responses, including an invite to tour Aardman Animation studios, the animators’ version of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory!”
They have since worked with Channel 4, ITV and the BBC and most recently made a music video for the band the Levellers, as well as being involved in several television projects.
But instead of heading for BBCland or Hollywood, they remain in Swindon, open to offers, but focussing much of their time teaching young people. Why?
Rich and famous
“It’s very satisfying to see people excel at something with knowledge you gave them,” James added. “Plus, you never know down the line, when our students are rich and famous, what rewards may come back! George Lucas got his old film school teacher to direct The Empire Strikes Back!”
And finally, why? Why the Evil Twins?
“The name evil twin artworks comes from awful American soap operas, Friends and South Park, where they use an evil twin as a plot development – we just find the idea amusing!”
